A Northern Ireland resident decided to hold one last memorable walk for her cocker spaniel, who turned out to be terminally ill. 350 people and more than 400 dogs came to support her.
Ashley Murray of Belfast was heartbroken when her seven-year-old dog, Marley, was diagnosed by a veterinarian with hemangiosarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer that has no cure. The dog had only a few weeks to live.
The woman decided to give Marley a memorable “big walk.” She appealed to Facebook users to support her. Marley and Ashley went to Crawfordsburn Country Park for their final walk, where they were joined by 350 people and 400 dogs. The woman was overwhelmed by people’s willingness to help and their understanding of her impending bereavement.
“I had no idea so many people would come out to support me and my little pet,” Ashley said. – Thank you to everyone who helped make this the best day my dog could have ever dreamed of.
Several local businesses offered free dog treats and pizza for humans. Ashley was also able to raise funds for the animal rescue.
“Not only did you guys give your time, but you also donated a lot of money – it’s admirable. We raised about 460 euros. I will try to live up to your trust and Marley’s. Let as many dogs as possible have joy.”
According to Ashley, the faithful dog was a support for her in difficult moments of life. He was there for her as she went through the tragic loss of a child, the death of her father and the breakup of a 10-year relationship with a friend. Marley supported her as she struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder.
